Merlin water and foam monitor systems were originally developed for extreme environments including offshore oil and gas exploration and marine applications.

In those settings, very high standards are required. Systems must withstand exposure to the harshest of elements, extreme temperatures and corrosive fluids, including but not limited to saltwater spray.

Because of this, our foam and water monitor systems are designed and built to some of the highest industry standards, to meet and exceed expectations in harsh and hazardous environments.

Types of Water & Foam Monitor Systems

We supply and install several types of water & foam monitor systems:

  • Manual monitors that raise the alarm for human intervention when required
  • Hand-operated systems to dispense water and foam suppressive agents
  • Fully automated robotic monitor systems for rapid response to fires

All are constructed using high-grade materials, manufactured to industry standards and rigorously tested prior to installation.

Once installed, we can continue to provide ongoing planned and responsive maintenance from our base in County Kildare.

More About Remote Controlled Monitors (RCM)

The Merlin RCM is designed to EN 13565-1 standards and provides a compact, reliable and efficient solution with a water/foam cannon that offers very good flow parameters.

Suppression agents can be dispensed over a radius of 45 metres from the monitor unit and with full-circle 360-degree coverage, so there are no exposed areas where fire can continue to take hold.

This makes it an ideal solution for fully remote monitoring of wide open areas, where a fire could ignite in any one of a number of positions, and where a sizeable area of effect is needed from the suppression system.

Choice of Fire Suppression Agent

Foam & water monitor systems can dispense one of a number of different suppression agents, suitable to different applications and environments.

Water-Only

Water-only firefighting can deluge an area with water to directly damp down fire, flames and thermal hotspots, as well as to put out sparks and embers.

AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam)

AFFF foams coat combustible materials, especially solids like wood, to create a flexible fire blanket effect and smother flames, while preventing reignition.

Class A Wetting Agents

Class A wetting agents are certified for use against Class A combustibles. Unlike foams, wetting agents typically contain a surfactant to encapsulate hydrocarbons in the fire’s fuel source, to prevent the chemical reactions involved in burning.

RCM for Bespoke Applications

Merlin’s engineers can develop Remote Controlled Monitors for bespoke applications and to meet specific needs and challenges in your operating environment.

The RCM solution has a modular design, which means it is easy to adjust it to meet unique specifications.

Its flow rate can be set at anywhere between 750 litres per minute and 1,400 litres per minute, with an optional fog nozzle or aspirating branch pipe.

For more information about any of the above, or to book a no-obligation consultation to determine the correct monitoring and suppression systems for your needs, please contact the Merlin team today and our engineers will be happy to help you.
